Weymouth SEA LIFE & College in Pride Partnership

Weymouth SEA LIFE Adventure Park is proud to announce their new partnership with Weymouth College.

The partnership was created after both businesses joined forces to support the Weymout¬¬h & Portland ‘Pride By the Seaside’ family event that launches 26-28 July this year.

A group of students from the College formed a Pride Committee and have been tasked with creating a spectacular sea creature-themed entry for the Pride parade, so sought advice from the local aquarium. Some of the students recently visited the SEA LIFE Park for inspiration and were excited to see all the colourful creatures on display.

“The students were particularly drawn to the seals, the Fairy Penguins and the colourful jellyfish display,” said Julia Cohen from Weymouth College. “It’s been great to see all the sea creatures up close and has given them lots of new creative ideas for the Pride Parade. They’ve also discussed using recycled materials and avoiding using balloons to ensure their creations are environmentally responsible.”

The new Pride weekend will include a programme of family-friendly events, such as an outdoor cinema, a Family Fun Zone with children’s’ activities and rides, and of course the colourful fun parade that highlights the celebrations of equality.

Tamsin Mutton-McKnight, Weymouth SEA LIFE General Manager, explained: “We are really excited to be supporting the first ever Weymouth & Portland Pride event and the Weymouth College parade entry this summer. The teams are working really hard to create a new inclusive and diverse family event here in Weymouth for the whole community to enjoy and we’re looking forward to being a part of the celebrations.”

Weymouth College are pleased to be working alongside other local businesses to support the Pride event. Julia Cohen, Weymouth College External Partnerships, added: “Many of our students are part of the LGBT+ community and so we wanted to help support and promote their visibility. The main goal of Weymouth & Portland Pride is to bring together the whole local community in safe and fun celebrations – so that everyone is included – and so it’s great to be working with Weymouth SEA LIFE to make it happen.”
